Ideas for surviving the christmas season

Well it’s nearly that time of year again so I have put together some ideas for surviving the Christmas Season and family get togethers. Holidays are a time to be thankful for what you have, and if what you have is a family that loves to get together, then you are truly blessed!!
Ideas for surviving the Christmas period:
• Get a good night’s sleep before your family event. Even little disagreements can get blown out of proportion when you’re tired and stressed out.
• Stay in a hotel when visiting relatives over the holiday. You can always use the excuse that you have to get back to the hotel to unpack your things. It’s a legitimate reason anyone can understand and provides you with an easy escape hatch when you’re bored or need to avoid turmoil.
• Try your best to remain neutral when disagreements come up.
• Watch out for over use of alcohol. Nothing can bring out the worst in folks than drinking too much alcohol, especially if you’re doing it because you’re on edge about being with your relatives.
• A cheerful, positive attitude can be contagious, even in the midst of hostility.
• Most importantly let your family members know that you love them with words and actions. Be sure to offer random hugs and compliments.
• Go out of your way to spend time with (especially if you don’t see them that often).
• Put on a happy face – Christmas is a time for peace and love so focus on the positive aspects of the holiday time.
• If there is someone you absolutely can’t get along with someone, try to avoid being alone in the same room with them.
• If all else fails – even if nothing else works, just remember …it will all be over in a few days!
• However if the holidays are a time to be thankful for what you have, and if what you have is a family that loves to get together, then you are truly blessed!!!!!!!

Disney's A Christmas Carol (Four-Disc Combo: Blu-ray 3D / Blu-ray / DVD / Digital Copy)

Fans of Robert Zemeckis's brilliant special effects, and of Jim Carrey's transformative acting abilities, will be swept away by their collaboration in the stunning A Christmas Carol. Perhaps more surprising is that Charles Dickens purists will also be impressed and captivated by this version of the oft-told tale--which is dark, complex, and in its way, uncompromising. Which is all to say that this Christmas Carol is an instant holiday classic, easily taking its place alongside the Alistair Sim version, the Patrick Stewart version, and even the Mr. Magoo version of the tale of Ebenezer Scrooge and his ultimate holiday redemption. Carrey is dazzling as not only Scrooge, the most miserable, and miserly, man in 19th-century England, but as the Ghosts of Christmases Past, Present, and Future. As with The Polar Express, Zemeckis animates the film over the actors' physical performances onscreen, but here, the emotion is intact--even heightened by the spiffy effects. Joining Carrey in the cast are terrific players, including Gary Oldman (Bob Cratchit, Tiny Tim, and the ghost of Marley), Cary Elwes, Bob Hoskins, and Robin Wright Penn. But the heart of the film is Carrey, whose dramatic acting has shone in films like The Truman Show and Lemony Snicket's A Series of Unfortunate Events. The emotional connection Carrey makes with his characters is what brings Dickens's classic alive--and what connects the viewer with the true spirit of the holidays. "God bless us, every one."

Halloween Tree [VHS]

Spock (Leonard Nimoy) waxes spooky as Death personified in this video retelling of Ray Bradbury's classic Halloween adventure. A Hanna-Barbera animated presentation, The Halloween Tree tells the story of four close friends who must face their greatest fears as they travel through time to save their dear comrade, Pip. It's Halloween night, Pip's favorite holiday, and the friends are baffled to spot his spirit running through the woods when they've just seen his body hauled off in an ambulance. Mustering their courage, they follow the spirit and meet Mound shroud (Nimoy), the mysterious black-caped proprietor of a haunted house. Mound shroud challenges them each to gain a deeper understanding of the origins of this ghostly holiday as he leads them on an educational journey through faraway places and time periods. From Egyptian sarcophaguses to Mexican graveyards, the children learn the legends behind Halloween and the importance they place on their friendship with Pip. Imaginative, not too scary, well-acted, and nicely drawn, this hour-long treat will appeal to little spooks ages 5 and older.
